Day 2: The Serro Negro Nature Reserve
Set off through spectacular countryside to the reserve. Fine open scenery gives way to the characteristic cloud forest vegetation, with trees heavily laden with delicate "epiphytic" plants such as ferns, mosses, bromeliads and orchids.
Lunch at the Serro Negro cabin and camp-site, and then head out for our first tour of the cloud forest, with expert guidance on the trees, plants, birds mammals and amphibians that make this such a special eco-system.
Duration: About 3 hours of walking to reach the Cerro Negro forest refuge, then optional further walks.
Difficulty: intermediate
Clothing and Equipment: Insect repellent, rubber boots, rain jacket, camera, change of clothes.
Cost: $35 per person per day, to include meals, mule and guide. We're happy to offer a discount for groups.
